Resort, Botswana (Tourism) 2016
New Southern Energy (NSE) is a South-African based leading full-service renewable energy provider for distributed energy projects throughout Africa. In 2016, they installed a 208 kWp PV plant for the five-star resort Belmond Eagle Island in the Okavango Delta of Botswana saving the lodge 180,000 liters of Diesel per year. That is the equivalent of an average car driving mileage for 96 years.
The solar system is equipped with Jinko 260Wp modules, SMA PV inverters and SMA Multicluster technology. The system provides direct solar energy during daytime and via battery storage also at night. During prolonged period of cloud coverage, the diesel generators work as a backup, charging the batteries and simultaneously providing the resort with power. An SMA Multicluster System with Sunny Island inverters was the obvious choice for this system due to the reliability of the products given the remote location in Botswana.
